Useful Tips for Hero & Captains
Which Captains Should I Hire and Why?
Captains are unique warriors who lead marches on monsters, as well as to crypts and resource-gathering points on the World Map. The Leadership, Authority, Dominance, and Might stats of Captains are lower than your Hero’s. They also have three equipment slots instead of six.
You need Captains in order to progress in the game and advance your development.
There are more ways to level up Captains than Heroes:
- By attacking a monster squad (except for rare and heroic ones).
- By attacking other players.
- By exploring Crypts — the higher the level of the Crypt, the more experience you gain.
- By using special experience chests that can be purchased as part of time-limited offers.
The most efficient way is to attack monster squads and other players.
There are 26 unique Captains in the game.

You can level up your Hero by:
- Attacking monster squads (including rare monsters and unique epic squads).
- Attacking other players.

How to Unlock Hero Avatars and Switch Between Them
At the beginning of the game tutorial, you can choose from one of two basic avatars — Garvel or Julia. After that, if you want to switch to a new Hero, you’ll need an “Unlock and change” item.
Once you’ve unlocked a Hero, you will no longer need to use the “Unlock and change” item to switch to them. Instead, you’ll have to use the “Change avatar” item.
Unlocking a Hero Avatar
If you haven’t yet unlocked the desired Hero avatar, follow the instructions below.
Select the icon showing your Hero’s avatar to open the Hero and Captain selection menu.

Tap the icon for switching avatars, which is immediately above your current Hero.

Swipe between the greyed-out avatars to select the one you want to unlock.

Once you’re sure about your selection, use an available “Unlock avatar” item or purchase one for 1M Gold to use it straight away.

Once you’ve used the item, the desired avatar will be unlocked and will immediately replace your current Hero.

Switching Between Unlocked Hero Avatars
If you wish to switch between Hero avatars that you’ve previously unlocked, follow the instructions below.
Select the icon showing your Hero’s avatar to open the Hero and Captain selection menu.

Tap the icon for switching avatars, which is immediately above your current Hero.

Swipe through your unlocked avatars and select the one you want to switch to.

Once you’re sure about your selection, use an available “Change avatar” item or purchase one as part of a package.

Once you’ve used the item, the desired avatar will immediately replace your current Hero.
Tip: You can only change your Hero’s avatar once every 20 hours.
What Are Talents and Why Do I Need Them?
Each time your Hero gains a new level, they get talent points. The talent points that you get for each Hero level follow a specific pattern and range within various level groups. Starting at Hero level 86, you get 10 talent points per level. The Hero’s level cap is 500.
Some talent nodes in the four available branches feature unique bonuses that cannot be obtained in any other way.
Battle Tactics
- Chance to deal double damage
Expert Battle Tactics
- Troop training speed
- Army carrying capacity
Economy
- Map tile bonus effect
Archaeology
- Bonus XP in Crypts
Talents always affect your Hero, your army, and your City, regardless of the status or location of your Hero. Most talent nodes can be upgraded to level 20. Some only have one level, however.
Talents that you have researched can be reset and re-assigned using the “Reset Talent points” item. You can buy this item in the Miscellaneous section of your Items for 18K gold or purchase one as part of game offers.
You can reset talents in your Hero’s talents menu.
Recruiting More Captains
You can hire new Captains by collecting their fragments. You can obtain them either by researching Captains in the Academy or by using Summoning Scrolls in the Summoning Circle.
Once you have enough fragments to unlock a new Captain, follow the steps below to unlock and hire them.
- Select the icon showing your Hero’s avatar to open the Hero and Captain selection menu.

- Select an empty Captain slot.

- Press the Captain selection button.

Once you’ve accumulated enough fragments to unlock a new Captain, that Captain will be highlighted in color, while all locked Captains will be shaded in gray. If you have multiple Captains unlocked, then you can swipe left or right in the selection menu to view your options.

- In the “Hire a Captain” section, click Summon to spend the required fragments and hire the selected Captain.

- The hired Captain will be automatically placed in the selected free slot.
